Making Room For Sports/ Broadband Update

November 16, 2015

The Tusayan Town Council and the Grand Canyon School District continue to work out details for the Town Park. The biggest challenge is finding room for all of the activities. The Council supports a plan to make sure the baseball field is full-size so it can accommodate high school baseball.

Another challenge is finding space for a soccer field, a football field, and a track.

The immediate need is a soccer field, but the council hopes to find room for all of the amenities, although it may obtaining some easements from the Forest Service or APS.

The Town Council is also moving ahead with a study on bringing broadband to Tusayan. The study is expected to cost between $60,000 and $70,000. It’s a feasibility study on the best way to bring broadband from Williams to Tusayan and possibly beyond. The first step would be to obtain easements from the Grand Canyon Railway. Those easements could be underground along the railway route as well as permission to make use of the utility poles along the route, the latter being a much less expensive option.
