Candidates Line Up for Seats on the Tusayan Town Council

May 11, 2014

May 28th is the deadline to hand in nominating petitions for three seats on the Tusayan Town Council. Craig Sanderson, John Rueter and Bill Fitzgerald are up for reelection. Fitzgerald is the only member of the council not employed by Stilo or its business partner, Elling Halvorson. Rueter has filed paperwork seeking another term.

There may be another Halvorson employee running for office. Becky Wirth has also filed paperwork to run. She spoke early and often in support of Stilo and expressed her frustration about being a resident of Valle. After singing Stilo’s praises and making very public statements in support of the controversial Stilo development, Ms. Wirth’s difficulties in getting a home in Tusayan were solved.

You may remember her husband Bob won a seat on the Tusayan Sanitary district in 2012 . At the time the Wirths had a home in Valle as well. Here is a link to a story we did on the residency issue. At the time he ran, Bob Wirth was also working for Halvorson.

Fitzgerald continues to be an independent voice challenging Stilo having voted against an amended Stilo development agreement because it basically gives the Town no control over how the massive Stilo project would unfold.

Election day is August 26.
