Council Briefs January 8th Meeting

January 12, 2014

Tusayan and the Arizona Department of Transportation have a disagreement over a $5800 water bill. Town manager Will Wright noticed a leak coming from a meter not far from his home, which is provided by the Town. It turns out the leak was from the water meter that serves the Town Manager’s home. ADOT, which owns the land, tracked the leak and ordered Tusayan to pony up $5800.

Neither the company that built the manufactured home, RC Homes, nor the company that made site improvements, RobbCo, can say who is responsible for the leak. The Town Attorney says it would not be productive to sue either entity as the cost of litigation would be larger than the bill.

Even so, the Town Council is looking to negotiate with ADOT to lower that bill and set some ground rules to make sure this doesn’t happen again.

Speaking of flood waters, the Town Council did get some good news. It's getting an $11,000 refund on a flood control study thanks to some additional funds from the Forest Service. The Town Council also met the new Tusayan District Ranger. James Simino (pictured left)  comes to the area by way of Oregon where he served as a fisheries biologist.
