Stilo Dithers While Others Deliver

September 2, 2013

While Stilo dithers on helping Tusayan deal with a housing shortage, there is help from another source. Fireside Ridge is expected to be built for Red Feather Lodge at the site of the old Canyon Pines Mobile Home Park. The project will have 21 dorm units and eight townhomes.

The Town Council has approved the zoning. The project, on Long Jim Loop, still needs design review approval. If all goes well they should break ground in late October.

The project, on 1.5 acres, represents continued efforts to bring more housing to Tusayan from long time residents as opposed to developers from outside the country. For the past few years  another hotel operator, Ann Wren, has built a number of apartment units. She even built a playground.

Italian developer Stilo, meanwhile, has yet to deliver on as promise to donate 40 acres of land to be used for affordable housing in Tusayan. The developer remains in default. On Wednesday, the Town Council will meet and it’s possible a Stilo plan may be on the table. It’s up to the council to decide if Stilo should be held accountable for failing to keep its promises.
