A potable water shutoff affecting several Bright Angel Trail locations does not impact Tusayan or its hotels, as the South Rim works to conserve limited drinking-water supplies.

The water restrictions are limited to designated trail locations inside Grand Canyon National Park and are not affecting lodging or visitor services in Tusayan, the gateway community south of the park entrance.

The water shutoff began at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, and affects 1.5-Mile Resthouse, 3-Mile Resthouse, and the Havasupai Gardens Day Use Area and Campground, according to the park.

Park officials are advising day hikers on the Bright Angel Trail to carry all the water they expect to need and not count on water being available along the route.

Overnight visitors staying at Havasupai Gardens Campground should bring enough water for their stay or be prepared to collect and properly treat water from natural sources. Hikers also are being urged to carry a reliable water treatment method.

The park asked visitors to plan ahead and help conserve water while the restrictions are in place.
