Fire District To Get New Ladder Truck

The Tusayan Fire District is getting a new ladder truck which will be able to help fight fires on three story buildings.

In the long run the $35,000 purchase will lower fire insurance rates for the entire town. The Town Council thought that was a good investment and it is expected to give the district the money needed to buy the truck.

It’s a used truck, built in 1986. A newer truck would cost more than $150,000. Fire District Board member john Vail says the truck is in excellent condition and will be up for a bid in mid- March.

The Council endorsed cutting the Fire District at check at its February 6th meeting. The Fire District has been having a tough time financially because of disappearing grants, increased calls for service, and diminished property values.
