Tusayan Tourism Remains Strong Despite International Challenges

June 10, 2026

Tusayan’s Tourism office is aggressively pursuing national and international tourists as well as using new digital tools to better understand visitor preferences.

To compensate for a nationwide downturn in visitors from outside the United States, the Tusayan tourism office, Explore Tusayan, has been reaching out to international media.

The office helped generate media coverage for Tusayan in France, Germany, Australia, Mexico, and the United Kingdom. The value of that coverage is estimated at around $500,000.

The Explore Tusayan winter digital campaign generated 1.3 million impressions.

The tourism office has also been tracking visitors to national parks and targeting people with a preference for the outdoors. Tusayan is using the firm DataFy to identify trends and targeting.

From April 2025 through March 2026, DataFy was able to identify 1.3 million trips to Tusayan, the average stay was two days, and the average spend was about $200.

84% of visitors to Tusayan are from out of state. 16% came from California.

Tourism in 2025 remained relatively strong but there has been a slight decrease in 2026 according to the report presented to the Tusayan Town Council June 9th from Explore Tusayan Director Jessica  Remington.

The good news is the tourists who are coming this year are spending a little more.

Town Manager Greg Clifton told the council there may be some re-branding in the future. Mayor Clarinda Vail indicated that should be done with community input.
