News Release: Grand Canyon National Park South Rim Accommodations Shift to the Town of Tusayan as Waterline Break Halts Park Lodging Starting December 6, 2025
December 3, 2025
TUSAYAN, AZ – December 3, 2025 – Lodging within the park boundaries at the Grand Canyon National Park South Rim will temporarily cease operations beginning December 6, 2025, until further notice. This emergency closure is necessitated by a significant break in the Transcanyon Waterline, which supplies critical water to the South Rim facilities. Grand Canyon South Rim is still open for day use and visits.
Visitors are advised to secure accommodations in the neighboring community of Tusayan, Arizona, where hotels, RV Parks, restaurants, and other services remain fully operational and unaffected by the park's internal water issue.
Visitors can enjoy a full range of amenities and essential services within the Town of Tusayan, located one mile from the south entrance to Grand Canyon National Park. Services include trails, tours, lodging, restaurants, retail shops, attractions, grocery store, gas station and a visitor center. Within the National Park, effective December 6, El Tovar, Bright Angel Lodge, Maswik Lodge, Yavapai Lodge and Trailer Village RV Park will be closed. Dry camping will be permitted at Mather Campground with limited water usage. South Rim food and beverage services, the Grand Canyon Clinic, Post Office, public restrooms, essential health and safety services remain open.
