The Grand Canyon and Tusayan Are Open For Business After The Flood

August 28, 2023

The Town of Tusayan continues to coordinate services to the community at multiple levels following this month's flood. A full list of services  appears at the end of this article.

At a community meeting held last week, residents were able to get updates on what is available. About 25 to 30 homes suffered damage. Most of the people who lived in those residences are being sheltered in local hotels.

Mayor Clarinda Vail told the Watchdog, "Thankfully  no one was injured and we have been focused on helping our residents. Our first responders were amazing and we are so grateful."

About half a dozen businesses suffered some damage but the town and the Grand Canyon are open for business.

The details of the flood are still being evaluated. Town Engineer Jack Moody said this is a 50 to 100 year event for the Coconino Wash Watershed as more than three inches of rain fell.

Here is the latest on relief efforts from Town Hall:

Connex Boxes/Permits
Due to the emergency the Town is currently allowing Connex Boxes and roll away bins. These will require follow up permits to be filed with the Town after the fact.  The applications can be found at this link Forms & Documents – Town of Tusayan (tusayan-az.gov).
