Grand Canyon School Superintendent Passes Away

On Wednesday November 24th Grand Canyon School District Superintendent, Dr. Shonny Bria, passed away. Dr. Bria led the District for over seven years.

The District released a statement which reads in part: 

"She led our school courageously throughout many challenges. This loss is sure to raise emotions, concerns and questions for our entire district, especially students, staff and community members who knew Dr. Bria." 

A scholarship fund has been set up in Dr. Bria's honor.  Those interested in contributing to the The Shonny Bria Memorial Scholarship Fund can contact the Grand Canyon Unified School District at 928-638-2461, or by Email at superintendent@grandcanyonschool.org. Planning for a public memorial is still underway. 

Dr. Bria was superintendent at three school districts in her career, Pendergast School District in the west valley of Phoenix Arizona from 1993 to 1998, at Battle Ground School District in Washington State from 1998 to 2013, and most recently at the Grand Canyon Unified School District on the south rim of the Grand Canyon from 2014 until her recent untimely death.  She was named All Arizona Superintendent in 1997 while at Pendergast, and was a finalist for Washington State Superintendent of the Year in 2006.
