Cash for Ambassadors

March 14, 2018

The Tusayan Town Council is looking at a proposal to spend as much as $65,000 a year to provide ‘tourism ambassadors’ at bus stops. The idea received a warm reception at a recent Tusayan Town Council meeting. Grand Canyon Chamber of Commerce General Manager Laura Chastain to make tourists know what is available in Tusayan in terms of lodging, dining and activities.  Chastain said, “I am still amazed at how many people show up and have no idea what to do here.”

Chastain said the ambassadors could also encourage shuttle bus ridership at a time when the shuttle buses are needed because of road construction at the Grand Canyon National Park.

The plan is to hire NAU hospitality students and local part time workers.  The Arizona Department of Transportation would still have to OK the idea because the ambassadors would be based at bus stops. If all goes well the program could start in May.
