Thank You Tusayan And Now The Hard Works Begins

January 6, 2021

 By Tusayan Mayor Clarinda Vail

On December 9th I had the honor of being sworn in as Tusayan’s Mayor. YOUR Mayor. I humbly thank all of those who voted for me, as well as those who voted for my opponent. I pledge to work long and hard to earn the support you have given me.

I would like to thank former Mayor Craig Sanderson for the kind words during the December 9th ceremony. I would also like to thank him for his many years of service. Likewise, I am grateful for the hard work of the current Town Council and look forward to working with them.

I hope for a government that works for “YOU not the few.” To that end I would encourage Tusayan residents to attend our town council meetings, especially now that they are accessible online. I will work to make sure they continue to be online and interactive after the current COVID crisis is over. I eagerly seek your opinions. We need input from outside the bubble.

My main goal is to improve Tusayan’s quality of life and serve residents to make their lives better now. That includes funding the good things residents demand.

In my view the residents are at the top of the town pyramid!

As I get ready to take office I have a long list of things I would like to get done. They include (in no particular order):
1. Returning current and future budget surpluses to the residents of Tusayan, with enough set aside for emergencies.
2. Ensuring public records are properly retained and available. The integrity of our local government is paramount.
3. More efficient Town Council meetings.
4. Ensuring support material for council meetings is readily available to the public in advance of meetings. An informed community is a better community.
5. Look at all housing options and stop throwing money at failed projects.
6. Finishing the flood study to protect our town.
7. Complete the School/Town Sports Complex for your enjoyment.
8. Finish the town’s internet project.
9. Stop spending so much money on lawyers and lobbyists so we can spend more dollars on you and the things that matter.
10. Work on all marketing and engineering firms having a plan and expectations from the town.
11. Build on the vital relationships with all of the towns neighboring agencies.

That’s just for starters. There is a lot of great work to be done. Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to do it.

I intend to be sending monthly newsletters. Also, feel free to email or call anytime at clarinda.vail@tusayan-az.gov and 928-637-8912..

I want and welcome your questions and requests about the things I can do for you!
Goodbye 2020 and here's to a 2021 that is better in every way for all of you!
