Welcome to the Grand Canyon Community News Weekly email for September 13th. Our goal is to combine all Grand Canyon area Activities, Events, Meetings, Volunteer Opportunities in one newsletter and send it out weekly. Rotary Chili Cook off Sept 21st

Do you make the best Chili or cornbread in the Grand Canyon?  Join the fun at the annual Chili Cook off on Thursday September 21st at Big E's Steakhouse. Registration starts at 5:00 pm and tasting begins at 5:30 pm.  Prizes to be awarded - not to mention the bragging rights.  For more information contact Sue Winchester at 928-638-8402.

 

Mammogram coming to Tusayan

Halvorson Seibold are once again sponsoring MOM - Mobile On-Site Mammography on September 25th from 7 am - 4 pm at the Best Western Grand Canyon Squire Inn.  To schedule an appointment please call 480-967-3767. Medicare patients are welcome, most major insurance accepted, non-insurance patients pay $167, 3D, Full Field digital Mammography and CAD computerized reading.  They can also accommodate breast implant patients.

 

Celebration of Art continues through September 15th

This event features thirty artists from around the country who will engage in a plein air competition and exhibition. Visitors will have the opportunity to watch the artists paint as they seek to represent the shifting light and shadow, amazing land forms, and vibrant colors of this vast landscape. 

 

Grand Canyon Community Church

All are welcome to join us for the installation of our new Resident Minister Rev Dr. Bob Beaver on Sunday September 17th at 11 am at the Shrine of the Ages.  The service will be led by Rev Dr. Spencer Lungaard, Executive Director of A Christian Ministry in National Parks.

 

Blood Drive Friday September 29th

We want your blood!  Grand Canyon Recreation Center will be hosting a blood drive on Friday September 29th from 9 am - 1 pm.  Call the Recreation Center to sign-up at 638-3389 or visit BloodHero.com and use code Grandcyn.  All donors will receive a voucher for a free chocolate chip cookie from Pizza Hut.

 

  

Rotary Responds to Hurricane Harvey

The Grand Canyon Rotary Club can easily accept donations for victims of Hurricane Harvey. Send donations to Grand Canyon Rotary Club, PO Box 696, Grand Canyon AZ 86023 and indicate Hurricane Harvey.

 

 

Suicide Prevention Training

Perri Spreiser is available to come talk with small groups about suicide prevention.  Her training is 20-30 minutes.  She has been presenting this course over the last year with different NPS groups but is now opening it up to the community.  If you would like to schedule a training with your staff please contact Perri at 928-638-7834 or email Perri_Spreiser@nps.gov.
