News Release: Forest Service asks public to stay safe this Fourth of July

June 29, 2017

Fredonia, Ariz., June 28, 2017 — For Immediate Release. As the Fourth of July festivities draw closer, Kaibab National Forest officials would like to remind residents, campers and visitors alike that all fireworks are prohibited on national forest lands. This prohibition includes any “legal fireworks” that can be purchased in local retail stores.

“We encourage people to visit Kaibab National Forest this holiday weekend and enjoy all we have to offer,” said Kaibab National Forest Supervisor Heather Provencio. “At the same time, we need our visitors to help us ensure that we don’t have unwanted, human-caused wildfires. They can do that by never having fireworks on the national forest and by following all fire restrictions that are in place.”

Forest officials would also like to remind the public that fire restriction information can change quickly as conditions in the forest change, so visitors should always ensure they check before visiting public lands.  Having a campfire on the national forest while under fire restrictions is a violation that carries a mandatory appearance in federal court.
