Bert Fire Update June 7 News release

 Williams, Ariz., June 7, 2016—For Immediate Release. Fire Managers on the Williams Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest anticipate daily growth of the lightning caused Bert fire as weather permits and ground fuels remain readily available.

BERT FIRE OVERVIEW

Start Date: May 28, 2016.

Cause: Lightning.

Location: Ten miles southeast of Valle on highway 180 near Ebert Mountain.

Current Size: Approximately 2416 acres.

Incident Commander: Quentin Johnson ICT3 / Mike Uebel ICT3T

Resources: 1-Type 2 crew, 1-11 person Fuels crew, 2-Type 3 engines, 1-Type 6 engine, 1-dozer and 1- resource advisor. Total personnel assigned is 58.

Smoke: Smoke will continue to be visible from Highways 180 and 64 and within the community of Valle. Volume may vary from day to day depending on fire activity. Southwest winds are expected to transport smoke away from sensitive locations.

Current Status: Crews have successfully allowed fire to consume fuels along the north and east perimeter of the planning area. This action will help safeguard containment lines and limit the potential for fire to move into areas that may pose additional holding difficulties.
