News Release: North Kaibab Ranger District winter closures announced, personal-use fuelwood cutting season winding down for 2015 season

 Fredonia, Ariz., September 29, 2015 – Campgrounds on the North Kaibab Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest will soon be closing for the winter season. Forest staff would also like to remind residents that the 2015 personal use fuelwood cutting season will end on Nov. 30.

 Jacob Lake and DeMotte Campgrounds

The last night to camp at these campgrounds will be Oct. 14. Campsites may be reserved at www.recreation.gov or by telephone at 1-877-444-6777. Both campgrounds are scheduled to close for the winter season on Oct. 15. Information regarding cancellation policies may also be found at Recreation.gov.

 Big Springs Cabin Rentals

The Big Springs Cabin rentals will remain open until Nov. 30 unless inclement weather forces an earlier closure. Campsites may be reserved at www.recreation.gov or by telephone at 1-877-444-6777. Information regarding cancellation policies may also be found at Recreation.gov.

 Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center

Beginning Oct. 17 through Dec. 13, the Kaibab Plateau Visitor Center at Jacob Lake will operate on reduced hours from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends only. For additional information on the Kaibab National Forest, visit www.fs.usda.gov/kaibab or call (928) 643-7395.

 

Personal-Use Fuelwood Cutting Season ends Nov. 30

Wood cutting permits are still available to purchase for the 2015 season at the North Kaibab Ranger District office located at 430 S. Main St., Fredonia, AZ 86022, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. All unused personal-use fuelwood cutting permits will not be valid after Nov. 30.

 

Permits are issued for dead and down (dead standing and downed trees) fuelwood cutting for all species. Permits are $5 per cord, with a four-cord minimum and 10-cord maximum purchase.

 

The district will resume the sale of wood cutting permits for the 2016 season in May 2016, pending appropriate weather conditions.
