ADOT Terminates Grand Canyon Airport Manager

March 23, 2014

Mike Halpin has been dismissed as manager of the Grand Canyon Airport. The Arizona Department of Transportation terminated him without explanation in early March.

Halpin, who has been in charge of the airport for more than seven years believes ADOT is looking to run the airport from Phoenix as opposed to more local control.
Halpin told the Watchdog, “They just said they didn’t need my services anymore. Their philosophy over management of the airport changed over last few months, so I think they want somebody more in line with what they’re thinking.”

Fire Chief Robert Evans has also expressed concerns about ADOT’s decisions recently. His fire trucks had to be removed from the airport because there was no intergovernmental agreement between the Fire District and ADOT. Even would like to council to set up a committee to address airport concerns.
