National Parks Service News Release: Grand Canyon National Park to Celebrate Black History Month with Special Guest Audrey Peterman

Grand Canyon, AZ – Grand Canyon National Park will host author and conservation activist Audrey Peterman for a special evening program on Monday, March 3 in honor of Black History Month. Ms. Peterman and her husband Frank authored the book Legacy on the Land: A Black Couple Discovers Our National Inheritance and Tells Why Every American Should Care.
Ms. Peterman will speak at the Shrine of the Ages at 7:30 p.m. on March 3 and will present the National Park System: A Glue that Holds America Together. During this special presentation, Ms. Peterman will address how the NPS represents our collective legacy as a nation, pivotal places where history occurred to shape our nation, how every ethnic group is part of change and history, and to show how much we all have in common as citizens of the United States.
Additionally, Ms. Peterman will join a Ranger Walk on Saturday, March 1st at 10:00 a.m. at the Yavapai Geology Museum.
Prior to coming to the Grand Canyon, Ms. Peterman will participate in the Lava Flow Ranger Talk at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 27 at Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument in Flagstaff. For more information about this program, please call Sunset Crater at 928-526-0502.
These events coordinate with the NPS Healthy Parks Healthy People program to promote holistic wellness and healthy lifestyles. There are no additional fees to participate in these programs; standard park entrance fees are applicable.
The Peterman’s have traveled the country visiting hundreds of national parks. Through public speaking engagements, blogs, and their books Legacy on the Land and Our True Nature they have inspired thousands to discover and support our national treasures.
