News Release Public Review Period for “A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for Rural Fire Districts and Tribal Communities in Coconino County”
March 31, 2026
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Greater Flagstaff Forests Partnership (GFFP), Coconino County and your local fire departments/districts, in collaboration with SWCA Environmental Consultants (SWCA), are pleased to announce the commencement of the public review period for “A Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for Rural Fire Districts and Tribal Communities in Coconino County (2026).” The review period is scheduled from March 30 through April 17.
The 2026 CWPP is focused on rural fire districts and tribal communities in Coconino County and is a collaborative effort to enhance the safety and resilience of our communities from uncharacteristic damaging wildfires. This plan aims to identify and address vulnerabilities while emphasizing wildfire risk reduction for life, property, infrastructure and valued natural resources across Coconino County.
As we enter this crucial public input phase, the GFFP, Coconino County and your local fire departments/districts seek the active participation and engagement of Coconino County residents. We invite all community members to review the draft CWPP and provide your invaluable feedback to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with the unique needs of each community.
While all communities are welcome to provide input, the City of Flagstaff and the Greater Flagstaff area are conducting a separate CWPP update with its own public review process. The focus of this CWPP is on rural fire districts and tribal communities, as such, we are seeking input from the following communities: Blue Ridge, Clints Well, Forest Lakes, Kaibab Estates West, Red Lake, Sherwood Forest Estates, Tusayan, Valle, Williams and the Hualapai Tribe.
The draft CWPP will be available for review and comment starting on March 30, 2026. To access the draft CWPP and participate in the review process, interested parties can visit https://cwpp-coconinocounty.hub.arcgis.com to view the plan and complete a comment form with your suggestions and thoughts.
We extend our sincere appreciation to the community members, organizations and agencies involved in this collaborative endeavor. Together, we are creating a proactive path towards a more resilient, fire-adapted Coconino County.
