Grand Canyon National Park News Release: Employee Spotlight!

January 5, 2024

Jon Ebers
Project Manager/Civil Engineer
Division of Planning, Environments, and Projects (PEP)

I am a Project Manager and Civil Engineer with the Division of Planning, Environment and Projects. I’m stationed in the Coconino building in Flagstaff, AZ. I’m just a month into my position with the Park Service, I started on Monday, December 4. Previously, I’ve worked for the City of Flagstaff, Arizona Department of Transportation, and Coconino County Public Works in Project Management roles overseeing design, construction, and development projects.

In the private sector, I’ve worked for Natural Channel Design in Flagstaff where I was an engineer working on fish barrier designs and watershed related projects. While in the Chicago area, I was a resident engineer with d'Escoto working on runway and taxiway reconstruction projects at O’Hare airport, and with AECOM I designed bridge substructures and retaining walls for highway and railway projects.

I’ve been in Flagstaff since July of 2008, when my wife and I moved here. I love being outdoors with my family, my wife Heather, and daughters Gretchen and Erin. As a family we’ve taken some hikes in the canyon along Hermits Rest, Bright Angel and the South Kaibab, and we have plans to camp at Phantom Ranch soon.

I first visited the Grand Canyon in 2000, when I camped at the South Rim overnight, and I was overwhelmed by the beauty and vastness of this incredible park. I am so excited to be able to help bring projects from vision to completion from the smallest to the largest, it’s just an honor to be a part of the parks history and future.
